2025 PGA Championship Odds: Scheffler Pulls Away As Favorite

It took 10 years for Rory McIlroy to win his most recent major championship. What about another just five weeks later? That’s certainly a possibility as the PGA Championship tees off Tuesday at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C., a layout on which the Northern Irishman has won four times on the PGA Tour.

McIlroy, though, isn’t the odds favorite for the event at Sportsbook—that position belongs to Scottie Scheffler, who scored his first victory of 2025 two weeks ago and hasn’t finished worse than T8 since early March. Scheffler stands at +330, with Bryson DeChambeau trailing at +950 with no other player in triple digits.

It’s the second PGA Championship for the Queen City layout, where Justin Thomas won his first career major in 2017.

McIlroy finished T22 in that event, but two of his Quail Hollow wins have come since architect Tom Fazio beefed up the layout in advance of the 2017 PGA. The course is expected to play much this week as it did then, with the three water-laden finishing holes known as the “Green Mile” offering lots of risk and reward. And bombers like McIlroy will load up—at 7,618 yards, Quail Hollow is the third-longest layout on the PGA Tour schedule this year.

Why Scottie Scheffler is Favored to Win the PGA Championship

Wait, so if McIlroy has had all this success at Quail Hollow, why is Scheffler the odds favorite? The world No. 1 has been consistently in contention this season, even though he often hasn’t had his best game—blame hand surgery after that Christmas encounter with a broken glass. But Scheffler is clearly rounding into shape, with a solo fourth at the Masters and a victory in the Byron Nelson. And since the start of the 2023 season, he’s finished outside the top 10 just twice in nine majors starts.

Is Rory McIlroy Overvalued in PGA Championship Odds?

Let’s put it this way—if he hasn’t broken through to end his decade-long majors drought at Augusta, we’d still be pointing toward this week as a prime opportunity for McIlroy. Since the 2017 PGA Championship, he’s played six times at Quail Hollow with two wins and an average finish of 15th, best among full-time competitors on the PGA Tour. And plus, the pressure is off.  All that major championship baggage was left behind on the 18th green at Augusta National (the second 18th green on the Sunday). So he’s not overvalued—if anything, he should probably be the odds favorite.

How to Read PGA Championship Odds

Looking at golf odds can be complicated if you’re new to betting on the sport, so don’t worry if it’s a little overwhelming at first. To learn more about the various ways to wager on golf, check out our How to Bet on Golf page.

If sportsbooks have Rory McIlroy as the +1000 favorite in PGA Championship odds, that means a $100 bet on him to win the tournament would pay out $1,100 – your bet amount of $100 plus winnings of $1,000.

It’s incredibly tough to win major championships and the PGA Championship is no different, so there is risk involved in pre-tournament bets given the significant amount of competition in the field. But McIlroy’s immense talent and past success in majors makes him an appealing option despite the shorter odds.

On the other side of the fence, a golfer like Brandt Snedeker would be considered a long shot to emerge triumphant at the PGA Championship. According to the latest PGA Championship odds, Snedeker has +20000 odds to go all the way. A $100 bet on him to win outright would pay out $20,100 – your $100 is returned coupled with your winnings of $20,000.
