BetMGM Returns as Title Sponsor of NASCAR BetMGM 300

Happy with last year’s results, BetMGM will be back for a second year in North Carolina as the title sponsor of NASCAR’s Xfinity Series race, the BetMGM 300, on May 24 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Charlotte is the epicenter of the NASCAR juggernaut, with more than 90 percent of the circuit’s racing teams headquartered there. The Charlotte Motor Speedway, which has a capacity of 95,000, generates $450 million annually for the regional economy.

BetMGM Nascar Welcome Offer

NASCAR’s Tripleheader Memorial Day Weekend

BetMGM is also the title sponsor of BetMGM Speed Street, which will offer racing fans entertainment, food, and interactive experiences during NASCAR’s tripleheader weekend, May 23-25. Headlining the fan festival will be GRAMMY-nominated band Smash Mouth, performing on the BetMGM Speed Street Stage on Saturday.

The Historic Home of NASCAR

One of the 20^th century’s greatest pieces of sports writing is about a stock car driver, and it contains one of the century’s most extraordinary anecdotes.

Just down the road from Charlotte, in Wilkes County, N.C. Tom Wolfe wrote The Last American Hero Is Junior Johnson for Esquire in 1965, when NASCAR was in its early days, and if you’re interested in the history of racing or just in great writing, it’s a must-read.

Junior put on such a show one night on a dirt track in Charlotte that he broke two axles, and he thought he was out of the race because he didn't have any more axles, when a good old boy came running up out of the infield and said, “Goddamn it, Junior Johnson, you take the axle off my car here, I got a Pontiac just like yours!” and Junior took it off and put it on his and went out and broke it too.   

It's unlikely any fans will come out of the stands in Charlotte this year to offer parts of their own cars to someone like Kyle Busch, but for sure, they’d love to have that chance.
